Luther Night at Redeemer

  • Redeemer Lutheran Church One Deerwalk Lane Charleston, WV 25314 (map)

Join us to kick off Reformation Weekend!

On October 31st, 1517, Martin Luther posted his ninety-five Theses at Wittenberg. Each year, we celebrate October 31st as Reformation Day.

This year October 31 falls on Monday, so we will be beginning our commemoration on Friday evening at 7 p.m. with a showing of the movie "Luther"

This is an extremely well-done, Hollywood-style movie, with well-known actors and great production values, and is historically accurate.

It is a good introduction to the events surrounding the Reformation, and can help you appreciate the enormous risks that Martin Luther and other reformers took in their efforts to eliminate some of the abuses of the day.

Please feel free to invite friends!  This can be a low-stress introduction to Redeemer, and can help folks who are not familiar with the Lutheran church to understand our heritage.

Popcorn will be provided; please bring whatever you would like to drink.

Note that "Luther" is rated PG-13, for mild violence (battle scenes).  Another kid-friendly movie will be provided for younger children.
