Dear Redeemer Saints,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

As the impact of the recent heavy rain and storms in our area becomes more clear, we find that many of our neighbors are suffering, and we are led to respond in some way.

We have contact through one of our members with affected individuals in the Clendenin community, and we will be working with those individuals to provide direct assistance. At this point, we are still assessing how many people need our help. We will continue to provide information as we receive it.

Here are some answers to a couple of questions we can answer now:

Are we still attending Live on the Levee this evening (6/24)?
No.

Though the event will go on at another location on the boulevard, we have decided to avail ourselves to be help, hope, and home to friends and loved ones who are directly impacted by the flooding.

How can we help the flood victims?

1. Pray.

First off, your prayers are the most helpful action at the moment. Pray for safety for all affected and for those who are called vocationally to help. Continue to pray that we as a church family will be given opportunities to be of assistance.

2. Follow direction of authorities.

State police and the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department are asking people to not spectate. Stay away from affected areas. If you are concerned about a loved one, contact the state police via phone and they will check on your loved ones. Please do not become another person who needs rescue. Tune into local tv and radio to get updates and keep a close eye on the weather as we are to get more rain this evening south of I-64.

3. Donate essential supplies.

At the church, we will begin a collection of the following items:

  • Bottled drinking water
  • Jugs of water
  • Cleaning tools (buckets, brooms, push brooms, mops, sponges, gloves, paper towels, old towels -- anything you'd use to clean up from a flood at your home)
  • Cleaning supplies/chemicals
  • non perishable food
  • pet food
  • dry clothing
  • diapers
  • gift cards to Home Depot/Lowe's
  • gift cards to Walmart/Kroger
  • gift cards to restaurants

Please bring items to the narthex area. Kelli and I will be at the church until 10 pm this evening to receive your donations.

4. Make yourself available as a clean-up volunteer.

As we learn more specific details and as the waters recede, we will be offering our help to volunteer for clean up. Stay tuned, but please email the church if you are interested in volunteering.

It is not we who do this, but Christ who does it through us.
Thank you in advance for your response.

Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Frank Ruffatto
